It was late one evening. The sky was dark, and the wind whispered through the trees outside the building. Aria lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling. She could hear the quiet hum of the city outside, but something felt… different.
A soft, almost unnoticeable sound came from her window. A whisper? She sat up and listened.
“Aria… Aria…”
Her heart skipped a beat. It sounded like someone calling her name. But when she looked around her room, it was empty. She shook her head and laughed nervously. “Just the wind,” she whispered to herself.
The next day, she went to see Siya, who was waiting in the balcony as usual. Aria wanted to tell her about the whisper, but when she saw Siya’s quiet, shy face, she decided not to. Siya had always been a little scared of noises at night, and Aria did not want to worry her.
Instead, they played their favorite games. They skipped, climbed the mango tree, and shared little secrets. They laughed so much that the scary whisper from the night before almost felt like it had never happened.
But that night, the whisper returned.
“Aria… why…?”
This time, it was louder. Clearer. It sounded sad, almost angry. Aria’s heart pounded, and she could feel goosebumps running down her arms. She tried to ignore it, pulling her blanket over her head.
She could not sleep. She did not know why the voice sounded so familiar… like someone she had known for a long time. Someone she loved.
Days passed, and Aria began noticing little things. Doors creaked when no one was there. Shadows moved in ways they should not. Sometimes she even thought she saw a small figure standing outside the window at night, watching her.
She wanted to tell her mother, but she did not. Her mother had been through a lot, and she wanted to protect her from fear.
But deep down, Aria knew that the whispers were not ordinary. Someone...or something was trying to reach her. Someone who needed her.
And she would not understand the truth… not yet.
